TRAIN to Umekoji-Kyotonishi Station (5 min from Kyoto Station, 140 yen)

From Kyoto Station go to the JR Sagano Line platform (platform number 32 or 33) and take the local train (do NOT the express, it will skip your stop). Get off at the first stop, Umekoji-Kyotonishi Station and walk 5-10 minutes to the Kinse Ryokan building. Google maps usually does a good job of navigation but if you need detailed walking directions please ask us.

Train tips: Look at the display board at the head of Platforms 32 / 33 to see at which platform the local train will be arriving. Please make sure you are on the LOCAL train (not express/rapid service).

If you are getting off at Umekoji-Kyotonishi Station, it’s best to board the back cars of the train at Kyoto Station (the ones closest to you when you first arrive at platform 32 or 33). That will put you in the closest position for the elevators when you arrive at Umekoji-Kyotonishi Station.

You can also get off at Tanbaguchi Station (the 2nd stop from Kyoto Station) and it’s also a 5-10 minute walk to our building.

TAXI (7 minutes from Kyoto Station, around 1,000 yen)

Please print out these instructions to give the driver (the bigger the font, the better) :

きんせ旅館 600-8827  京都市下京区西新屋敷太夫町80

壬生川通花屋町通西入る 島原の大門の中、2筋目南西角(誠の湯の西側)

and give them our phone number:  075-351-4781

Taxi tips: For the smoothest experience, please bring a large printout of the instructions we’ve included above–sometimes it’s hard for the drivers to see instructions written on a small phone screen.

You might see a separate line for “Foreigner Friendly” taxis at Kyoto Station; it just means that the drivers of these taxis have more fluency in English. There’s no requirement that international guests have to use them, so please feel free to use this line or the “regular” line of taxis at the station.

BUS (10 minutes from Kyoto Station, 230 yen)

City buses are useful for sightseeing once you’ve gotten settled in Kyoto, but we don’t recommend them when first arriving at Kinse Ryokan, especially if you are traveling with luggage.

From the bus terminal in front of Kyoto Station take Bus #206 and get off at the Shimabaraguchi stop.  From the bus stop walk south and turn right at the first street you come to, Hanayacho-dori.  Keep following the road, pass through one stop light and then go through the big old gate to the neighborhood, and watch for our building on the left hand side of the street.  The entire walk takes about 10-15 minutes.
