You’ll find us on a quiet Kyoto street, through the big gate to the old Shimabara pleasure quarter.  The Kinse building has seen several lifetimes, first as an ageya where geisha entertained at dinner parties and banquets, then as a ryokan providing guests with traditional food and lodging until the early 1990s.  We reopened to the public in 2012 with a cafe on the main floor and a private guest suite on the second floor.

The traditional upper rooms are only available to one group at a time, giving guests the chance to relax and experience the atmosphere of old Kyoto.  The cozy, elegant space on the first floor welcomes international visitors and locals alike for morning bagels and coffee at Cafe AUSGANG, ikebana workshops, and occasional live music / special events.
